The Director of the Emergency Management Agency in Niger State, Nigeria, confirmed that a tanker explosion occurred on a road in the Diko area of the state on the morning of January 18th local time, which has been confirmed to have caused 77 deaths. Another 25 injured people were urgently sent to nearby medical institutions for treatment.
It is reported that a tanker truck loaded with gasoline had an accident and the tank fell onto the road. When nearby residents were scrambling for fuel, the oil tanker truck caught fire and exploded. After the incident, the Governor of Niger, Mohamed Bago, went to the scene for inspection and ordered a ban on heavy trucks passing through the accident section.
